Aptonomy Drones - Flying Security Guards

With the immense growth of the drone industry, they are now being applied for use in a number of areas apart from just recreational flying. Drone startup Aptonomy is one such company who has created a system that turns drones into security guards in the sky!

The company has been co-founded by Mihail Pivtoraiko and Siddharth Sanan, who both have doctorates from the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University.

The system works by making modifications to DJI Spreading Wings S1000+ drones, and mounting devices like cameras and computers that will allow the drone to securely patrol any location, all which having obstacle avoidance in place, and the ability to recognize things that aren’t supposed to be there.

The Aptonomy Drones work by charging themselves at a hidden away dock located on the roof. It charges for about 15 to 20 minutes and then sets back on its rounds of the property.

Wondering what a simple drone can do from the sky to scare burglars away? It features a 3½ foot wingspan that gives it an intimidating look, and also has bright, flashing alarms and lights good to scare off any intruders.

The easy part is that the drone can work with almost any security system you may have at home and adapts to it. The drones can also be easily accessed even if it is far away from the guard, and provides two-way communication through loudspeakers with the intruder.
