Drone Racing League Lands Allianz As Title Sponsor For The 2017 Season

The Drone Racing League only started last year in 2016, and has already become a big deal in the sporting world, thanks to their sponsorship from German insurance company Allianz who will be sponsoring their event for the next five years!

Their partnership has helped in legitimizing the drone racing sport that has 16 high-speed drones racing each other at 90mph or more, with their fliers wearing VR headsets. Apart from this, the league has also secured broadcast deals with ESPN and Sky Sports in the UK.

Nicholas Horbaczewski, who is the chief executive and founder of DRL spoke about this sponsorship, "Allianz is bringing world-renowned brand credibility and a proud history of innovative sports partnerships, including an extensive tradition in auto racing, and an undeniable proof point that the sport of the future has arrived."

He also claimed that after the sport’s incredible first season, they will now be airing the event in 75 countries this year.

Jean-Marc Pailhol, Allianz SE's head of group market management and distribution, also spoke about this saying, "Drones are already an important part of our business so we’re excited to align with DRL as they harness the latest technological advancements and reimagine what racing in the 21st century looks like."

What’s new for DRL in 2017?

The Drone Racing League has partnered with Toy State and created a co-branded racing drone. This drone will be a part of Toy State’s drone line, Nikko Air, and can be purchased starting fall of 2017.

DRL has also created an FPV simulator that can be downloaded for free and used by anyone. It comes with courses from the 2016 season, and also has an online multiplayer option that allows fliers to battle competitors from all around the globe. You can download the simulator here.
