Shift is said to be the new generation of drones and controllers and is aimed at revolutionizing the way we fly drones. Started as a campaign on Kickstarter, Shift is the first ever user-centric drone that can be flown using just one hand and one thumb.

Instead of opting for the big controller that requires the use of both hands, this drone can simply be flown by wearing a special ring on the thumb, making flying very simple and intuitive. Users just have to move their thumb to move the drone. For instance, if you move your thumb to the left, Shift flies left.

Very cool, right? This is why when the campaign asked for funding of $50000, 272 backers came together and pledged over double the amount and raised $103,831!

But unfortunately this dream isn’t going to be realized, at least not any time soon. The campaign creators cancelled the project due to a change in the direction of the “SHIFT” project.

A comment by the creaters on the campaign page explains the reasons saying, “Before releasing SHIFT controller on the market, we should confront two challenges; increasing our drone's compatibility and introducing a receiving device; currently, some of drones are not compatible with SHIFT controller. And for these reasons, there is limited number of users who could make best use of SHIFT.

“Secondly, to keep up with other competitor’s products such as DJI’s Mavic and GoPro’s Karma, we came to a conclusion that it would be wiser to put Shift on the market after it is equipped with more functions including GPS automatic driving mode, macro control, obstacle detection, and extra features. By developing these features, we can provide much more attractive drone which you really want to buy. So we decide to release the drone after meeting market needs,” it continued.

They also claim that they will try to release this new and innovative product as soon as they can once it is equipped with great features that will impress users. It will be sold directly in the market and not through Kickstarter, and as a token of appreciation, they will be providing a special discount coupon to all the backers who supported them for future purchases.
