SJCAM has recently released 3 new action cameras in close succession – SJCAM SJ1000x, SJCAM SJ5000x and SJCAM SJ5000x Elite, which seem to be like an upgraded version of SJCAM’s previous action camera models.

What sets these apart is that the 3 new cameras will only be available for a particular time and probably until stocks last, as each has been produced only in a small specified quantity. The SJCAM SJ5000x Elite has only a few thousand pieces available for purchasing right now, but later batches will be also be produced.

The SJCAM SJ5000x Elite has 2 very prominent new features. One is that it is equipped with a Gyro Electronic stabilization system, which helps in stabilizing videos and producing better quality pictures and footage. This will be very beneficial for SJCAM fans as the camera’s use for drones and quadcopters will also increase.

The other feature is that this SJCAM camera will be the first to sport a 12.4 MP Sony Sensor IMX078CQK. This is big upgrade from their 4MP Omnivision sensor OV4689, and the new sensor will have a sensitivity of 1437 digits and can record videos in 4000 x 3000 pixels 4k at 42fps.

Apart from this, the SJ5000x Elite features a Novatek 96660 chipset to support all the camera’s cool functions. The combination of Sony image sensor and a wide-angle 170° lens with Lens f= 2.99mm and F= 2.8, provides great video and picture results. Another new feature is the adjustable wide-angle view lens that can be adjusted between 170° 140° 110° and 70°.

All image resolutions include 12MP (4032 x 3024), 10MP (3648 x 2736), 8MP (3264 x 2448), 5MP (2592 x 1944), 3MP, 2MHD, VGA and 1.3MP.

It features multiple photo shooting modes – single Shot, burst shot mode (3 photos per second), timer (2s, 3s, 5s, 10s, 20s, 30s, 60s), continuous (2 seconds, 5 seconds to 10 seconds), slow motion (-2X, -4X, -8X) and photo and video time-lapse.

When it comes to video recording, the SJ5000x Elite can record in 4K resolutions to provide amazing recording quality and footage, especially along with tits new gyro stabilization system. All video Resolutions include 4K (3840 x 2160) at 24fps, 2K (2560 x 1440) at 30fps, 1080P (1920 x 1080) at 60fps/ 30fps, 720P (1280 x 720) at 120fps/ 30fps/ 60fps and WVGA at 240fps (Slow-Mo).

It stores video in MP4 format with .h264 codec and images in JPG format, and even has 4x digital zoom features. It will also have a huge variety of settings such as ISO, exposure, white balance, etc.

The SJ5000x Elite has a sporty design that is stylish and very compact, making this lightweight camera only 74g with battery. It also meets IP68 standards and is waterproof till 30 meters underwater, but needs a waterproof case.

It features a 3.7V 900mAh li-ion rechargeable battery that is removable and can be replaced. It can be charged using a USB cabled connection to a laptop or computer, or wall socket. When recording at

1080P, the camera will work for up to 80 minutes on a complete single charge. A great feature of this camera is that you can record while you charge it (with a power bank as well) making it convenient to use.

The camera also has a 2.0″ LCD screen at the back for you to review what you are recording, and footage can be shared via Wi-Fi. It supports storage cards up to 32GB which are Micro SD Card Class 4 and above, though the company website claims that select 64GB 128GB cards may work with the camera as well. It also supports HDMI HD output function as well as AV out while recording with certain USB-to-AV cable.

The camera now also supports 18 languages in all, with OSD support added for Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, Danish, Dutch and Turkish. It is available in 7 color options – Black, White, Silver, Gold, Blue, Red and Yellow.
