The DJI Inspire 1 Pro is a superior drone that has enhanced aerial imaging. Like it predecessor, the DJI Inspire 1, this quadcopter too is one of the smallest and easiest to use professional aerial filmmaking drones in the market today. The drone puts together DJI’s unmatched advance in aerial technology with topnotch M4/3 imaging abilities.

The DJI Inspire 1 Pro is available in its original white body at the price of USD $4499, and the drone also has a special Black color edition called the DJI Inspire 1 Pro Black Edition, which features a completely black body as well as a black remote controller.

Camera details

The Inspire 1 Pro uses the DJI Zenmuse X5 that consists of a powerful 3-axis stabilization gimbal and 4K camera.

The camera has shutter speed, iris, ISO and more focus control when using the DJI Go application or remote, providing new levels of shooting. What sets it apart is the mix of these features with a larger, yet compact sensor and a 15mm f/1.7 lens.

The camera also has 4K video recording capabilities at 24 and 30 fps. It can record in: UHD – 4K (4096 × 2160) 24/25p, 4K (3840 × 2160) 24/25/30p,2.7K (2704 × 1520) 24/25/30p, and FHD – 1920 × 1080 24/25/30/48/50/60p.

The X5 can also capture 16MP pictures at 5 fps with up to ISO 25,600, in JPEG or DNG. Equipped with up to 13 stops of dynamic range, the cameras also feature manual white balance, Spot metering and DJI’s D-log.

Pictures can be taken in different modes - Single shot, Burst shooting (3/5/7 frames), Auto Exposure Bracketing (3/5 bracketed frames at 0.7EV bias) and Timelapse (3/5/7/10/20/30/60 sec). All the media can be recorded and stored on a Micro SD card of Class 10 or UHS-1 or above, and with a max capacity of 64 GB storage space.

Controller and app

You also don’t need to switch between the smartphone app and controller when changing the camera settings, because the Inspire 1 Pro’s controller has all the camera controls that can be easily used.

The controller also uses DJI's Lightbridge wireless transmitter technology, which has the ability to live-stream 1080p video to any iOS or Android smartphone so you can monitor what you quadcopter is capturing. It has USB and HDMI outputs, as well as a new SDI output port.

The Remote Controller has been incorporated into the Ground System, so no additional Remote Controller is needed. As compared to the Inspire 1, transmission latency has been lessened to 50ms. While the transmission range has been increased to 2km. Adaptive wireless technology for better transmission reliability and Picture-in-Picture output support has also been added.

The app provides complete telemetry from the quadcopter’s sensors, gives you control of the camera settings and also lets change the controller's settings. And if you wish to fly it autonomously, you can plot the course on a map by just drawing it out on your smartphone’s touchscreen.

Flying features

Flying the Inspire 1 Pro is fairly simple as it is a ready-to-fly (RTF) model. So all you need to do is put the color-coded self-tightening props, charge its battery and start flying!

It takes off and lands with the push of a button, and if you want to land it manually then it has a wider base and is equipped with shock absorbers so even if you land a little hard, there isn’t much chance of the quadcopter tipping over and getting damaged.

DJI has also added a camera and sensors at the base of the Inspire 1 Pro to help with drift when you are capturing footage inside, or when you aren’t able to get a GPS lock of the copter. It creates a stereoscopic image of the floor to help keep the quadcopter stable without continuous alterations and tunings.

For more safety to ensure that your expensive quadcopter return to you, DJI has made their return-to-home feature more dynamic, so your ‘home’ would be where you are at the moment. This is great especially if you are in a moving car or boat.

The Inspire 1 Pro features propulsion systems that have high performance rotors with increased stability due to their newly developed carbon fiber compound. A quick-release locking mechanism speeds up rotor mounting and the stronger motor helps in increasing thrust by over 30%, providing reactive and precise flight even with the heavier Zenmuse X5 series cameras attached.

It also has an advanced Electronic Speed Controllers (ESC) that has sinusoidal drives instead of the older square one. The ESCs feature patented algorithm that are altered and customized specifically for the Inspire 1 Pro to provide closed loop torque control, maximum reliability and distinct functional redundancy.

Battery

Just like the other DJI quadcopters, the Inspire 1 Pro is also set to automatically return home when its battery power is low. The new iOS and Android app that can be used with it will also allow you to see how much battery is left. This is also great for monitoring the health of the batteries individually incase u need to change them.

After a full charge, the quadcopter can fly for up to 15 to 18 minutes when using the Zenmuse X5. It uses a LiPo 6S High voltage battery with a 4500 mAh capacity.
