Competition for which quadcopter features the best camera capabilities is heating up and there are a large number of options that you can choose from. With action cameras being created specially for drone flying enthusiasts, the newest entrant in the race is the E1 from Z Camera, a Micro Four Thirds camera that has 4K shooting capabilities and interchangeable lens.

Touted as the world’s smallest interchangeable lens 4K camera, the E1 can be monitored using its iOS or Android app. The app also lets the user adjust and change settings and live stream your footage via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Bluetooth can also be used to activate the camera and it has a standby time of up to one month.

Recording specifications

It is equipped with a 16MP Micro Four Thirds (17.3 x 13 mm) sensor and can be used with a drone or on its own for capturing amazing pictures and videos. It can also record videos in 4K (4096 x 2160) at 24 fps, along with 3840 x 2160 UHD at 30 fps, Full HD 1080p and HD 720p at up to 60 fps.

You can use the camera on direct AC power source, while the removable battery will also provide 80 minutes of 4K shooting with no Wi-Fi on a single complete charge.

The camera has a magnesium housing and features a 2.5-inch LCD at the back that has a 320 x 240 resolution. Its small size measures just 2.9 x 2.2 x 1.9 inches and weighs 209 g.

The E1 camera was started as a Kickstarter project and has already exceeded its $42,000 target till 15 August, with over 500 backers. For $599 you can get the E1 camera body-only, which is otherwise expected to be sold at $699 when the camera is released. On the other hand, for $799 you can get the camera along with a 14-mm F2.5 Panasonic lens. Shipping is supposed to start in November.
