Battery Life
After the success of their first drone, the Ghost Drone, Chinese drone maker Ehang have released the second installment in the series - the Ghost 2.0. Apart from an upgrade in features and design, the new Ghost drone will support virtual reality goggles and let its fliers experience sights through its 4K camera.
New and improved features
Giving you complete control of your flying experience, the Ghost 2.0 is equipped with a special and upgraded facing-down motor that provides stronger power and allows for a more efficient and responsive flight. For added performance and stable and flying, it uses 8.5” self-tightening 2-bladed propellers.
It also features a faster response rate, upgraded global GPS system, integrated processing power, improved stability and dual sensor backup for a better flying experience.
Camera
The 4k camera used with the Ghost Drone 2.0 has been created for great aerial views, attained with a beautifully crafted body that allows for easy maneuvering and display. Apart from taking videos in 4k resolutions, it can also take picture in 12MP. The camera also features a F/2.8 aperture and a 93° wide-angle FOV.
Battery
While the battery has been downsized from the 5,400 mAh one in the first Ghost Drone to 4500mAh, it is still quite powerful. Keeping this smart battery well maintained and in a healthy condition is easy due to its feature that automatically prevents over charging. Charging the battery is simple and straightforward, and it provides up to 25 minutes of flight time per complete charge.
Users can also easily keep an eye on the battery level and track the battery performance with the drone’s LED screen that shows the battery percentage still left and a flashing indicator light.
Controlling the drone
The drone can be controlled using the Ehang Play application, which is available for download on Android and iOS. A new feature allows the drone to utilize the smartphone or tablet’s gyroscope to facilitate tilt control – “Just tilt your hand and your Ghost Drone will follow the gesture,” said Ehang.
The VR goggles also come with a similar feature called head tracking, in which the users just needs to look up or down to tilt the drone in a particular direction. In fact, Ehang claims that the data is transferred at 5.8 GHz with 0 latency till about 3,000 ft. or 914 meters away.
Explaining this feature Ehang says, “See through the eyes of your Ghost Drone. Just put on the goggles and experience the excitement of first-person-view flight. Aerial footage live streams to your goggle with zero latency for a real-time flying experience. Front camera allows you to switch between live aerial view and front view.”
According to Ehang’s cofounder, Derrick Xiong, the mix of tilt mode with the use of VR makes it easier for drone amateurs to learn flying the machine. “That’s because you can use your intuition instead of learning to use a complicated RC transmitter,” he said. “2.0 also makes it possible for one person to act as both pilot and cameraman – a cutting-edge move for the market.”
Availability
The Ghost Drone 2.0 is up for sale for a price of $399.99, and for $899.99 with the VR headset in USA, Canada and Mexico. It is available for €539 (€989 with VR) in Europe, and $599.99 ($1099.99 with VR) in other regions.
