GoPro Officially Announces Their Consumer Drone

We had earlier reported that GoPro was going to launch a line of consumer drones sometime later this year. At the Code Conference, GoPro CEO Nick Woodman officially put all rumors to rest by officially announcing the drone’s conception.

Confirming that it will release sometime in the first half of 2016, Woodman said, "The quad is in some ways the ultimate GoPro accessory.”

Why is it the right next move?

Everyone who owns a GoPro camera with a selfie stick will agree with Woodman and comply that the next logical step for the company would be to get into the drone game. According to him these devices are essential enough to their company and business and will help them get a bigger reach in the industry.

GoPro hasn’t given any official price for the drone as yet, but since GoPro is a "consumer focused company," it can be presumed that the GoPro quadcopter will cost somewhere around the same amount as drones from DJI, 3D Robotics and Parrot.

While Woodman didn’t say anything about the features the drone will be equipped with, it may be logical for the company to equip the drone with obstacle avoidance and ‘follow me’ capabilities. If this holds true, the drone will definitely be in the higher end range of drones present in the market.

Woodman also said that once the GoPro quadcopter releases, there would be quite a few related products that will be launched along with it.
