The Importance Of Drone Carry Cases And Bags

Drones and quadcopters have become very popular among flying enthusiasts and hobbies who like to fly these aerial machines not just for fun, but for even recoding amazing videos and taking beautiful stills. Whether for fun or work purposes, these drones and quadcopters are now available in the market in all shapes, sizes and can be used for a variety of purposes.

From Chinese brands like DJI, Hubsan and Walkera to other popular brands like 3D Robotics and Parrot, you can buy drones ranging from small sizes that fit in the palm of your hand to bigger quadcopters that can carry professional cameras like the GoPro series.

While the price range varies from company to company, most of the best drones cost anything between $500 to $2000. So, when you are shelling out such high an amount for your aerial machines it becomes very important to ensure its safety.

Hazards in the way of drone safety

Drones and quadcopters have quite a few hazards that can get in the way of keeping them safe. First are the dangers while flying. Not only are there various obstructions that can come in the way of your drone, but also even while landing it can crash and damage its body or propellers.

On the other hand, the second form of danger is while carrying your drone around with you. Some of the outer parts of the drones and quadcopters are very vulnerable and prone to breaking if not kept safely. You can’t just put your drone and transmitter in to a backpack and carry it around. It needs to have a proper case specially designed for that specific model and it also needs to accommodate its other accessories and peripherals.

Smaller drones that can fit in your hand especially need more care as they are more delicate and have smaller parts that can break easily. While the body of the drone may be sturdy and hard to destruct, other detachable pieces like the propellers, gimbal, camera and even sensors can be hard to keep safe.

Types of drone cases and bags

There are two types of protective gear that is available for drones and quadcopters when it comes to carrying cases. One is the briefcase case that has a hard outer body and the other is the backpack case that also has a hard outer body but can be carried on your shoulders like a normal backpack, leaving your hands free.

The inside of the case is made from a hard foam material that has custom cutouts to fit the specific drone and its accessories. These cutouts properly fit the parts in its place in a manner that they aren’t too loose to fall out after every movement, and are also not too tight that they may break while putting in and out of the case.

The cases itself are waterproof and also do not allow dust to enter inside due to their tight closure systems. Most of them are also equipped with ambient pressure equalization valves and are resistant to UV, solvents, corrosion and fungus. The hard outside of the cases are sturdy and resilient and can easily keep your drone and its accessories safe against impact damage.

Both of these types of cases are available in different sizes as per the specifications of different models and come in a variety of options.

The most basic and readily available version of drone and quadcopter carrying cases is one that accommodates only the drone and batteries, and this is true for most of the smaller sized drones. Other options include just the drone, batteries and transmitter and the third option has these three items plus some accessories like the charger, spare motors, spare propellers, camera, a variety of cables, etc.

Problems with drone carry cases and bags

One of the biggest problems that most drone and quadcopter fliers face is the lack of cases to match their needs. Even though there are a lot of options for drones and quadcopters to choose from, the industry does not cater to the needs of each and every model that is available in the market.

While the more famous brands have well made cases readily available, the lesser known companies and Chinese companies do not have this option. Since not everyone can pay a thousand dollars to buy a drone, they opt for the cheaper drones that cost under $200 and these are the ones that are missing these amenities. Furthermore, not each and every model has a case for itself and just the more famous ones do.

The other problem with drone cases is that most of them are only created for the drone itself and do not accommodate the transmitter or other important accessories that are needed to fly the drone, making it impossible to travel with all the paraphernalia. And even the cases that are created for lower budget drones are not made with the best quality, defeating the purpose of buying the case.

Another issue that arises with the briefcase type of carry cases is the clamps on them. They can easily get damanged and break due to the case falling or after a period of continuous use. For this reason, it is necessary to find carrying cases that have a zip closure for easier use and safety.

Lastly, the cases and bags that are available for drones do match the specifications and all cost around $200 or up, so this becomes an added expenditure on top of your already expensive drone.

The drone and quadcopter industry is facing this conundrum and there is a big gap between what the consumers need and what they are being offered. At the moment, the necessary demands are not being met and there is a dire need for companies to produce drone and quadcopter carrying cases that are efficient, sturdy and can safely keep at least most of the important accessories and drone in the box.
