Is The New DJI Mavic Drone Waterproof?

UPDATE 17/01/2017: Expert Vagabond crashed his DJI Mavic drone into a river in Costa Rica recently, and though that he had lost his drone, but surprisingly was able to bring it back to life!

The first thing he did was remove the battery and dry it with his truck’s heater. Then, he removed the propellers and placed it in a bag with a kilo of rice and let it remain there for 3 days. After this, his Mavic pro seemed to be working just fine, with complete flying and camera functions!

Though, it is important to note that the drone owner has also claimed in an update that he should have taken it for repairs instead of trying to fix it on his own to ensure proper and safe flying.

Do you think this is just a one-off chance that it worked out, or could the Mavic Pro be saved from being ruined completely by water? What do you think?

The DJI Mavic Pro Drone has finally been launched and has been created as a compact yet powerful drone, created to meet the consumers’ needs. It comes equipped with some of the most advanced features at a small price tag than most leading drones in the market.

One question that has been on everyone’s mind is whether the DJI Mavic Pro is waterproof?

The simple answer is no. The drone isn’t waterproof and cannot withstand being submerged underwater or be in contact with liquids. While this would have been a great feature to have, the drone definitely comes packed with some powerful and advanced features that give even the most leading drone in the market a great competition.

The DJI Mavic Pro was created with portability in mind, and with this foldable design the drone becomes as small as a water bottle with the arms and propellers safely tucked inside.

The Mavic Pro uses a 3-axis gimbal that provides shake-free footage and pictures when recording in the air, and it is also the smallest gimbal the company has built till now. It features a camera that can record in 4K at 30 fps, as well as 1080p HD at 96 fps. The camera can take pictures in 12MP and the picture can also be flipped 90 degrees to a portrait mode for taking vertical photos.

The drone has a number of modes that makes flying much easier, like Active Track, Gesture Mode, Tripod Mode and Terrain. The drone uses an Intelligent Flight Battery that provides a flight time of around 27 minutes when flying at speeds of up to 40mph (64kmh).

The DJI Mavic Drone can be flown using the compact new remote controller that can be used to mount a smartphone as well. It uses the new OcuSync encrypted transmission system that provides an amazing range of up to 4.3 miles (7 km) and can also live stream at 1080p video resolution.

The DJI Mavic Pro has special awareness features like obstacle avoidance and Flight Autonomy guidance system. Obstacle avoidance combined with sensor redundancy increases the flight’s safety and consistency, and the drone is capable of avoiding an obstacle from as far away as 49 ft. (15m). An amazing new mode is the Sport Mode that allows the drone to fly at super fast speeds of up to 40 mph (64.8 km/h), which is something fliers are really excited about.
