The Snap Drone Takes Videos In 4K And Focuses On Safety And Portability

Vanatage Robotics has created a new drone called the Snap Flying Camera Drone, which has the ability to capture stabilized 4K video with a number of different shooting modes. Though what does make it stand out from the large number of drones and quadcopters available in the market is its focus on safety and portability.

The drone was unveiled on Tuesday and the company has started taking preorders, making this a drone to look forward to in 2015.

The 4K camera that can shoot at 4x HD resolution and the gimbal that mounts it are both something that photographers are looking forward to. The gimbal swivels and revolves the camera around to counter the drone’s movement to provide the users with smoother video quality.

Safety and portability

Talking about the drone’s focus on safety, Vanatage Robotics’ co-founder Tobin Fisher said, "The biggest issue with any drone that shoots quality video is that it's essentially a big, flying lawnmower. If you're hit, you're cut; if it's in the eye, you're blinded."

To make the drone safer to use, Snap features 4 rotors that are shielded by protectors. This new design does not interfere with the rotors’ airflow and also makes sure that no one has a bad accident by getting hit.

The product’s name comes from it feature that allows you to ‘snap’ it together into place. An enclosure has the body and electronics housed in it, and that is snapped onto the drone’s frame using magnets. So, if there is an accident or crash, the enclosure will easily separate from the main body, also letting there be lesser damage done to the aerial machine.

With portability in mind, the Snap Drone’s frame can be folded into half when the body is detached, allowing it to be carried around easily.

Other features

You can control the Snap Drone by using a smartphone and also choose from a number of different shooting modes – follow me, virtual wire, air tripod and it can be geo-fenced so that it wouldn’t fly outside of a outlined area.

With a range of up to 150 meters, the drone can go till the top speed of around 30 mph and has a flight time of about 20 minutes.

Vantage Robotics is working on creating accessories that can elongate it range and flight time. They are even in the process of creating hardware modules that will allow users to change the drone’s feature set.

The Snap Drone is available for a price of $895 while on preorder and it will later be available for $1,295. Shipping will start at some time in 2016.
